A peak into the creation of Diamond Jim, featuring vintage American jewelry.

I loved the idea of the torso as a mosaic - a mosaic of gorgeous, vintage gems that perhaps, upon a closer look would spark memories of a mother, an aunt or a dear friend wearing a similar piece of jewelry. I envisioned those memories enshrined on this sculpture. And, in fact, I’ve seen it already happen many times - even before he was complete. He is timeless, nostalgic and extravagant - serving as a piece of history in today’s modern time. This piece quickly took on a life of its own, well before he was finished. Placing each of the vintage jewels was like creating a puzzle that had never existed, the challenged lied in balancing the gems in a way that pleased my eye. When he was complete, I stood back and looked at him, as he stood on his chrome stand. It was as if I had looked at him for the first time. He is strong, solid, his own man. I knew immediately I had to name him after famed railroad tycoon Diamond Jim Brady, who was known for his extravagant love of jewels. He came to life as Diamond Jim, without a doubt. *Please click on the pictures to see a bigger image and zoom in to see more detail. Please email Shanee for pricing information. The Vintage Jewelry

"Diamond Jim" features vintage jewelry pieces from some of the most renowned jewelers of the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. A few of the designers include Coro, Weiss, Kramer New York and Eisenberg. Coro - One of the most successful jewelry companies of the early 20th century, Coro started as a small business in New York City in 1901. By the 1930s, Coro was a household name thanks in part to its famed "Coro Duette" design, which featured interlocking pieces so it could transition between a brooch and a clip. Coro was often sold in Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales. Weiss - Founder Albert Weiss learned his tools of the trade while working for Coro. In 1942, Weiss started his own company and quickly found his pieces being sold in higher end boutique stores. Best known for its collaboration with Dior in the 1950s, the Weiss jewelry company  closed in 1971. Weiss pieces are often hard to find - often being some of the most sought after pieces in the vintage jewelry world. Kramer New York - Founded in 1943 in New York, Kramer New York is well-known for its elegant and extravagant pieces. Similar to Weiss, Kramer New York collaborated with Dior in the 1950s, which lead the company to two decades of success.  As with many of the jewelers from this time period, Kramer New York stopped business in the 1970s. Due to its short period of business, Kramer New York pieces are often hard to find and treasured by vintage jewelry enthusiasts. Eisenberg - Beginning in the 1880s as a clothing company, Eisenberg expanded to jewelry in the early 20th century. Founder Jonas Eisenberg is said to have been very selective about where his pieces were sold - reportedly allowing only one department store in each city to sell its pieces. Originating from Chicago, IL, Eisenberg is one of the few jewelers of the the time that did not originate in New York City.
